Technical Sales Executive recruited
Brookes Bell, the leading multi-disciplinary technical and scientific consultancy, has appointed a Technical Sales Executive for The Lab, its independent advanced testing and inspection facility which opened last year.
Caroline Young’s main focus will be business development, promoting The Lab’s services and expertise to existing and new customers, and demonstrating the many benefits to existing customers who may not be aware of The Lab’s full scope and potential.
The high-end 8,000 sq ft laboratory officially opened last year and includes advanced testing and inspection facilities, a modern analytical laboratory, engineering workshop space, flexible training facilities and offices.
Before joining Brookes Bell earlier this month, Caroline worked for ITPEnergised as an environmental consultant covering key accounts across the oil and gas, and renewable energy sectors. Before that she worked for The Welding Institute (TWI), for 20 years. Her role involved providing advice and conducting research for member companies worldwide, while recruiting and retaining technical members in the upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors, nuclear and power industries.
Caroline’s first degree was in Chemistry and Biology Joint Honours from Nottingham Trent University, followed by an MPhil and then a PhD in Materials Engineering from Brunel University, examining materials used in fuel cells for large scale power bases.
Commenting on her new role, she says: “Initially I will be getting to know our key clients and highlighting how The Lab can offer an independent comprehensive ‘one-stop-shop’ for much more of their needs.
“In the longer term though, there’s huge potential to apply our specialist skills to new sectors – aviation, biofuels, oil and gas and much more. We have world-leading equipment and an ambitious, intelligent, highly skilled scientific team, the potential is almost unlimited.”
Anthony York, Chief Operating Officer, Brookes Bell adds: “Caroline’s appointment is an important next step for our independent laboratory. Much of the last year has been focused on securing valuable industry accreditations – including ISO 8217 for fuel testing - which will give our customers the assurance that the team is operating at the highest industry levels. The Lab brings together multi-disciplinary teams offering unrivalled insights and technical expertise, so now we really need to explain to the market exactly what we can do and how we can help with the most challenging and complex investigations.”
As a result of ongoing covid-related travel restrictions Caroline’s initial focus will be online, with digital conferences, webinars, ‘lunch and learn’ training courses and online meetings all in the pipeline. All of these activities aim to raise awareness of what equipment The Lab has to offer, the wide range of specialist services and the increasing number of industry-leading accreditations being awarded to the state-of-the-art facility for its fuel testing, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and metallurgy services.
Caroline adds: “‘I have more than hit the ground running; with my background and knowledge, I already a comprehensive understanding of the testing and investigations being undertaken in The Lab.” I am well used to translating highly technical information for customers and will work closely with the technical team allowing them to focus on their expert examinations and analysis.”
The Lab is a great addition to Brookes Bell’s services. Brookes Bell already has a solid reputation across the maritime industry and is the ‘go-to’ consultancy for the industry’s most high-profile casualty investigations, forensic analysis, technical dispute resolution and expert witness work. The addition of The Lab’s services means Brookes Bell can offer a wide range of regular testing services, supporting customers’ business operations in many other ways.
